Gastroenteritis threatens France NOUVELOBS.COM | 04.01.2006 | 09:46 The country could become one of the largest outbreaks recorded during the past fifteen years, according to the INSERM.read more on http://htxt.it/wQp6 The outbreak of gastroenteritis has risen sharply in France over the last two weeks of 2005 and could be one of the most virulent of these last 15 years in France, according to estimates by the Sentinelles network published Tuesday 3 January. According to this network of INSERM (National Institute of Health and Medical Research) and the Institut de Veille Sanitaire, were reported during the week of 26 December to 1 January 492 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the epidemic threshold of 278 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. GPs have recorded nearly 450,000 cases in the last 15 days in 2005. Ten regions had exceeded the epidemic threshold on 1 January 2006, the three most affected regions being the Nord-Pas de Calais (687 cases per 100 000 inhabitants), Aquitaine (660) and Burgundy (586).
